I’ve spent the last couple of weeks excruciatingly busy, finishing things up from one project so I can get started on the next. Working such long hours while also not leaving the house, ever, feels like it has taken me back in time to my PhD days, which, in a lot of ways was good training for lockdown life.
Although I have been keeping busy, I’m really missing seeing my work friends and almost-daily afternoon jaunts to Waitrose to hoover up the deli samples and get free coffees. As such, I’m feeling especially grateful for the Sex and Drugs reading group, which is giving me some grounding and a feeling of community in these strange times.
This week we read Following Mercurial Affect from Mel Y. Chen’s Animacies: Biopolitics, Racial Mattering, and Queer Affect and hatched a plan to read another chapter of the book for next week.
